A Pirkei Avot, “Ethics of the Fathers” class will begin Saturday, February 6th,  10:30AM-11:30AM. It will be led by our Beth Or member, Stan Bilsker, and will continue to be offered on the 1st Saturday of each month.

Pirke Avot is one of the tractates of the Mishnah and dates back to the 3rd c. CE. It presents a series of ethical principles articulated by the rabbis, many of which may be familiar to you, such as “If I am only for myself, who am I?” and “You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.”

Stan will highlight these pearls of wisdom contained within Pirke Avot and participants will have the opportunity to discuss and debate the purpose and relevance of these principles. No prior knowledge needed, just a willingness to learn. Texts will be provided on Zoom. If you want your own book, we suggest Pirke Avot: A Modern Commentary on Jewish Ethics, or Pirke Avot: A Social Justice Commentary. These and others can be found on Amazon.
